Camp of the Arts, a musical theater camp is designed for grades
1-8 (must have completed full day kindergarten and entering first grade in fall 2010) Campers will learn the basics of drama, improvisation, group dance, monologues, playwriting, storytelling, voice and art (production oriented.) Campers will take all these disciplines to develop their talents for their final productions and talent show. The Conservatory Camp, for grades 8-12, is an audition-only camp geared for the more experienced camper who is ready to take on the challenge of a full theatrical production.
Session I, Slayton House Conservatory Intensive will be from June 28 thru July 9. We are very excited to announce this special two-week session taught by Mr. Nathan Rosen, Drama Teacher at Atholton High School. This two week session will concentrate on acting and auditioning – learning how to audition, choosing a song, creating a portfolio, improvisation, scene work and much, much more.
Mr. Nathan Rosen, Drama Teacher at Atholton High School, returns as Director of the Conservatory. We are very excited to announce this special two-week session taught by Mr. Rosen. This is a unique opportunity to experience the “how to” before you try out. Mr. Rosen has taught and directed at Atholton since 1997. The first session will feature a workshop presented by Baltimore’s own Bruce Nelson. Bruce has been a professional actor and teacher in the Baltimore-DC area for the past 25 years. In Columbia, he is a favorite at Rep Stage and has been seen there in many plays over the years. He is the winner of two Helen Hayes awards and directs Howard County’s All County Improv troupe. The session dates are June 28 – July 9, 2010.
The second session will perform 13 The Musical. This is the premier performance of this Jason Robert Brown musical in Howard County. The story concerns the life of a 13-year-old Evan Goldman as he moves from New York City to Appleton, Indiana, and his challenges fitting in to teen age life in a small town. The show is full of great music & dancing and will be performed with a live band. Session dates are July 12 – Aug 6, 2010.

To register for the Camp of the Arts, please fill out the registration form and mail to: Camp of the Arts, 10400 Cross Fox Lane, Columbia, MD. 21044. You may also use PayPal. $30.00 non-refundable registration fee for each session will hold a spot for you. $200.00 deposit is due two weeks after registration and final payment is due 4 weeks before the start of camp. As we did last year, we are offering a 5% discount for the second or more family members enrolled in the same session.
